The US Census was taken in 1850, but Bucahanan County, Missouri, was subdivided by its twelve townships in this enumeration. The current boundaries of St. Joseph are roughly similar to those of Washington Township. In the 1850 US Census enumeration for Missouri, Washington Township had a total population of 4,301 persons. That total was comprised of 2,386 white males, 1914 white females, one free black male, and one free black female. There were no entries on the slave schedule.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
